Course Overview This course offers an introduction to the essential methods, materials, and tools used in furniture design. Students will investigate various design approaches, utilizing technical drawings, sketches, models, and prototypes to effectively communicate and present their design concepts. Design Principles and Foundations Design is a multifaceted discipline that is unique to everyone yet built upon enduring foundations. These include classical proportion, geometry, and architecture, as well as iconic furniture pieces from history. The syllabus examines each of these elements, highlighting the threads that connect them. Students will learn to recognize established rules, understand where these rules can be adapted, and discover opportunities to challenge conventional boundaries.
